KARACHI: The mentor of the winning team of the Champions Cup will be given a prize of one crore rupees. Earlier, this money was intended to be distributed equally among the players, but later the mentors insisted on limiting it to themselves. Saqleen Mushtaq of the champion team Panthers will receive the check soon.
According to the details, PCB had organized the Champions Cup One Day Cricket Tournament in a short time, former Test cricketers Waqar Younis, Misbah-ul-Haq, Saqlain Mushtaq, Shoaib Malik and Sarfraz Ahmed were assigned the responsibilities of mentors. The appointment was made on a monthly salary of 50 lakh rupees. Before the event, the board had expressed its intention to distribute another 1 crore rupees in prize money to the winning players and officials, however, some mentors opposed it and limited it only to themselves. Saqleen Mushtaq of Panthers, the winner of the first season, will also receive a separate prize of Rs 1 crore soon.
In recent days, there have been reports about a mentor, Shoaib Malik, that he is making efforts to replace Usman Wahla as PCB’s director of international cricket. That Shoaib Malik is not interested in any such full-time job, he wants the High Performance Center of Sialkot to be activated and handed over to him, but the board has not yet given him a clear answer.
Another mentor, Sarfraz Ahmed, was dropped from the national squad by the new selectors, sending the message that he is not part of the future plans.
