Lahore:The Punjab Central Business District Development Authourity (PCBDDA), also known as Central Business District Punjab (CBD Punjab), has officially handed over the completed Remodeling & Upgradation of Ada Nullah and Walton Road project, including the strategically important Major Ishaq Shaheed Flyover, to the Walton Cantonment Board (WCB).
The formal handover took place following a joint inspection and site visit conducted by officials of CBD Punjab and the Walton Cantonment Board. Upon completion of all procedural requirements, the project was formally transferred, with WCB assuming full responsibility for the operation, maintenance and future management of the upgraded infrastructure.
Implemented by CBD Punjab at a total project cost of PKR 10.2 billion, the initiative stands as a major milestone in Lahore’s urban infrastructure development. Designed to resolve decades-old drainage challenges and chronic traffic congestion along Walton Road and its adjoining areas, the project has significantly enhanced road capacity, improved storm-water management, and strengthened the overall resilience of the urban corridor.
The upgraded Walton Road and Major Ishaq Shaheed Flyover now capable of accommodating an estimated 700,000 to 800,000 vehicles per day, ensuring smoother traffic flow and reduced travel time for daily commuters. In addition to improving mobility, the project has played a vital role in uplifting the quality of life for more than one million residents of Walton by providing safer roads, improved accessibility, and effective mitigation of urban flooding risks.
Expressing satisfaction over the successful completion and handover, Chief Executive Officer CBD Punjab, Imran Amin, stated, “This project represents a comprehensive engineering solution that integrates road upgradation, improved drainage systems, and modern traffic management. Its successful delivery is a testament to CBD Punjab’s commitment to sustainable and future-ready urban development. We are confident that the Walton Cantonment Board will ensure its effective upkeep and long-term operational efficiency.”
The remodeling of Ada Nullah, coupled with the construction of the Major Ishaq Shaheed Flyover, is expected to deliver lasting benefits by easing congestion, enhancing road safety, and providing reliable infrastructure capable of supporting Lahore’s growing traffic demands.
The handover underscores effective coordination between provincial and cantonment authorities and reflects a shared commitment to strengthening Lahore’s infrastructure through collaborative planning, execution, and governance, ultimately contributing to the city’s long-term urban sustainability.
