INDIA: A tragic accident occurred in the town of Faridpur in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. A car traveling on the route indicated by Google Maps plunged into the river from an under-construction bridge, resulting in the death of three people.
According to Indian media, a car traveling from Bareilly to Dataganj using the Global Positioning System (GPS) fell from a height of 50 feet into the river from a dilapidated bridge in Faridpur district.
Two brothers and a youth were killed in the accident. The deceased include Amit and Vivek Kumar, who were residents of Farrukhabad, while the police are trying to identify the third victim.
According to the police, the front part of the bridge had collapsed into the river due to floods this year, but this change was not updated in Google Maps, due to which the driver could not find out that the bridge was broken.
After being informed by the villagers, the police and rescue teams pulled the vehicle out of the Ramganga river, in which all three people on board had died.
Assistant Commissioner Ashutosh Shivam, investigating the incident, said that despite the bridge being under construction, it lacked a safety fence or any danger sign, which led to the fatal accident. He said that if proper safety measures had been taken on the bridge, this unfortunate tragedy would not have happened.
Local families and villagers have held the administration responsible for the accident and demanded action against those responsible.
