ISLAMABAD / PESHAWAR / KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has challenged the actions of the Practice and Procedure Committee in the absence of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah.
Additional Secretary General Firdous Shamim Naqvi filed a petition in the Supreme Court requesting that the decisions of the Practice and Procedure Committee comprising Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa and Justice Aminuddin on September 23 and October 1 should be declared illegal.
In the petition, the stand was taken that on September 23, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah had written a letter and expressed reservations about the amendment ordinance. The letter said that Justice Muneeb Akhtar was removed from the committee without assigning any reason and adding arbitrary members to the committee is undemocratic behavior and a one-man show.
Meanwhile, the Peshawar District Bar challenged the Practice and Procedure Ordinance 2024 in the Peshawar High Court. The Vice President of the District Bar took the stand that the proposed constitutional amendments and the amendment to the Practice and Procedure Act 2023 are against the basic spirit of an independent judiciary.
As the House is not complete due to certain seats being vacant, the federal government should be prevented from presenting the draft constitution. On the other hand, the Sindh High Court adjourned the hearing for three weeks on the application against the Practice and Procedure Amendment Ordinance, Deputy Attorney General stated that we should be given time to submit the reply.
