Dhaka: Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar-ul-Zaman has announced the establishment of an interim government in the country after the resignation of Sheikh Hasina Wajid, the details of which will be released soon.
According to the World News Agency, in his address to the nation, the Bangladesh Army Chief expressed his regret for the deaths during the protests across the country and appealed to the citizens to remain calm.
The Bangladeshi Army Chief said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid has resigned and gone abroad, after which we have decided to form an interim government after fruitful discussions with all political parties.
General Waqar-ul-Zaman added that tonight he will talk to President Muhammad Shahabuddin to resolve the situation.
The Bangladeshi army chief demanded an end to the violent protests and promised that the interim government would hold an inquiry into all the deaths and bring justice to the families.
He has asked Professor Asif Nazrul from the Law Department of Dhaka University to issue a statement requesting the student to end the protest.
In response to a question, he said that the features of the interim government will be informed soon in which proportional representation will be given. It will be a coalition government.
The Army Chief further said that all things will be settled today. People should trust their army. The deaths of the protesters will be investigated. Will restore peace in the country.
It should be noted that after the resignation of the Prime Minister, there was no representative of the Awami League in the meeting with the leaders of all parties in the country along with the Army Chief.
