Khan Yunis: 40 Palestinians were martyred and dozens were injured in an attack by Israeli planes on refugee camps in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.
Local residents said tents of displaced people were targeted in the human rights area of al-Mawasi, west of Khan Younis city, resulting in large craters.
Operations Director of Hamas Civil Defense Authority told the British news agency that 40 Palestinians were martyred and more than 60 injured in the attack, while many people are still buried under the rubble.
Eyewitnesses told the BBC that shortly after midnight there were large explosions in the Almawasi area and flames could be seen rising into the sky.
Khalid Mehmood, a charity volunteer who lives near the site of the attack, said he and other volunteers rushed to help but were stunned by the scale of the devastation.
Mehmood said that the attacks created three pits seven meters deep under which more than 20 tents were buried.
The Israeli military says its planes have struck an operations center of Hamas fighters in Khan Younis.
While Hamas rejected the Israeli army’s claim that Hamas fighters are present in the area.
