Another petition was filed in the Supreme Court against the proposed constitutional amendments.
Advocate Saim Chaudhry filed a new petition in the Supreme Court writ, in which the Federal Government, the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chairman of the Senate, among others, have been made parties.
Taking a stand in the petition, it was said that the federal government cannot make amendments that conflict with the constitution, amendments related to the judiciary are tantamount to taking away the independence of the judiciary.
It was argued that the proposed constitutional amendments are against fundamental rights, and the government wants to remove the powers of the Supreme Court and the High Court through the constitutional amendments.
The court was requested to declare the proposed constitutional amendments as unconstitutional and invalid, any amendment related to the judiciary should be sent to all stakeholders after scrutiny.
