Another American citizen, Travis Timmerman, who was imprisoned in a Syrian prison in search of American journalist Austin Tice, who was imprisoned while reporting on the Syrian civil war, has been transferred from Syria to Jordan.
According to the foreign news agency Reuters, Travis Timmerman was taken to a military base in Syria near the Iraq-Jordan border from where he was transferred to Jordan.
According to US government sources, it is not clear what Timmerman was doing in Syria, but Timmerman was handed over to US forces in the Al-Tafif area from where he was taken by military helicopter.
According to the foreign news agency, Timmerman has told US authorities after his recovery that he wants to stay in the Middle East instead of going to the US.
Timmerman has told US news channels that he was on a religious pilgrimage when he entered Syria from Lebanon. He said that he was treated very well while in prison in Syria.
According to police in the US state of Missouri and Hungary, Timmerman went missing in May and was last seen in Budapest.
Austin Tice is a freelance American journalist who was imprisoned near Damascus in 2012 while reporting on the Syrian civil war.
