Lahore and Karachi have become the second and Karachi the fifth most polluted cities in the world after the air quality of Karachi and Lahore was reported to be extremely unhealthy.
Lahore is the first among the most polluted cities in Pakistan with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 404, Multan is second with 304 points, Karachi is third with 207 points, and Peshawar is fourth with 203 points.
After the reduction in the intensity of smog in Punjab, safety measures are being relaxed, schools closed due to smog across Punjab except Lahore and Multan divisions have reopened from today.
According to a notification issued by the Punjab Environment Department, hotels, restaurants and food outlets will now be allowed to remain open until 10 pm, while food and takeaway facilities in hotels and restaurants have also been extended to 10 pm.
Apart from this, there will be no restrictions on home delivery services, however, outdoor sports and other extracurricular activities will remain banned, while motorways have also been closed at various places due to low visibility.
On the other hand, despite the reduction in smog, an anti-smog grand operation is underway across Punjab, including Lahore.
