Washington: The United States has sent a dozen F-18 fighter jets to an undisclosed airport in the Middle East in anticipation of Iran’s possible attack on Israel.
A US official on condition of anonymity told the foreign news agency that the warplanes arrived in the Middle East after flying from the USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier in the Gulf of Oman.
According to the official, the arrival of these planes will be used to protect Israel from possible attacks by Iran and its agents and to protect US troops.
The official said that a dozen F-18 fighter jets, including an E2 Hawkeye aircraft, will perform surveillance duties.
It should be noted that US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has ordered an increase in the presence of troops in the region after soldiers were injured in a rocket attack on a US military base in Iraq yesterday.
Another official said on condition of anonymity that about a dozen F-22 aircraft will also arrive in the Middle East in the coming days.
It is not clear how long all the planes will stay together at this unknown airport and what is going to happen in the next few days.
