Madrid: The governments of Spain and Norway have said that the foreign ministers of several Muslim and European countries will meet in Madrid on Friday to discuss the implementation of the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
According to the Reuters news agency, the meeting will be hosted by Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albers, and will be attended by his European counterparts, EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell and members of the Arab-Islamic Contact Group for Gaza.
Norway’s Foreign Minister Aspen Barth Eddy said that Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa will also attend the Madrid meeting.
He said that the main issue to be resolved in the meeting is the establishment of a Palestinian state or proposing a reasonable path towards it and strengthening the Palestinian institutions.
He said that the establishment of relations between Israel and other countries, especially Saudi Arabia, is also important for Israel.
It should be remembered that the two-state solution was proposed by the international community in the Madrid Conference of 1991 and the Oslo Accords of 1991-95 to find a better solution to the decades-long problem, but despite this, the peace process has not been completed till date.
The Gaza Contact Group is an initiative of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which includes Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Indonesia, Nigeria and Turkey.
