A recent study has found that common sleep medications may be linked to dementia.
A study conducted by researchers at the University of California found that people who frequently use sleeping pills may be at higher risk of developing dementia.
According to the results, the type of sleeping pill used and its dosage play a significant role in the increased risk. Studies have also suggested that risk factors and the risk of developing the disease differ between people of different races.
The researchers analyzed data from nearly 3,000 adults who did not have dementia at the start of the study.
Among white participants who frequently used sleeping pills, the likelihood of developing dementia was 79 percent higher than those who rarely used the medication.
In contrast, among black participants, frequent use of sleeping pills did not significantly increase their risk of dementia.
