Moscow: Russia has admitted that Ukrainian troops are now up to 30 km inside Russia.
According to the British news agency, this is the first time that Ukrainian forces have made a successful advance since Moscow launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Russia’s Defense Ministry says its forces have stopped Ukrainian troops from advancing further near the villages of Tolpino and Obshikolodys.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused Kiev of terrorizing the peaceful population of Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, who directly acknowledged the attack for the first time in a speech last night, said Russia had launched 2,000 cross-border attacks from Kursk this summer.
He said that we keep a record of every missile attack by Russia apart from Russian artillery, mortars, drones so that we can give a fair response to these attacks.
A senior Ukrainian official told the news agency that thousands of troops are involved in the operation, far more than the small infiltration initially reported by Russian border guards.
Although Ukrainian-backed subversive groups have periodically launched cross-border incursions, the Kursk offensive is the largest coordinated attack on Russian territory by Kiev’s conventional forces.
