California: New research warns that people who use marijuana are three times more likely to develop head and neck cancer.
The study, the most comprehensive to date on the issue, tracked the medical records of 40 adults for up to 20 years.
A team of oncologists led by Dr. Joseph Califano of the University of California, San Diego, wrote in the study that, given the increased use of marijuana, the number of head and neck cancers will continue to increase and may increase. Dramatically.
The study was conducted in collaboration with Dr. Niels Katt, professor of clinical otolaryngology-hand and neck surgery at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles.
