Southport: 39 police officers were injured in clashes with police during a white extremist protest outside a mosque in Southport after three girls were killed in a knife attack in England yesterday.
According to the police officials, the group of white extremists wanted to go towards the mosque, when they tried to stop it, the extremists got angry, and the extremists also set fire to the police van.
Extremists attacked the police resulting in injuries to 39 personnel, out of which 8 policemen sustained serious injuries.
Two police dogs were also injured by bricks thrown by white extremists.
According to the British news agency, supporters of the extremist group English Defense League were involved in the demonstration near the mosque on St. Luke’s Road in Southport.
Extremists threw bricks at the mosque, set cars and wheelie bins on fire and damaged a local convenience store, police said.
In view of the tense situation in the area, more police personnel have been called in, while British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed regret over the incident, saying that the peaceful protest was hijacked by thugs.
