It has been 31 years since the Indian Army’s Kupwara massacre, when on January 27, 1994, Indian troops indiscriminately opened fire in Kupwara district and martyred more than 23 Kashmiris.
The Indian troops carried out the Kupwara massacre to punish people for going on strike on Indian Republic Day on January 26.
According to a human rights report, the Indian soldiers involved in the Kupwara massacre and other incidents of bloodshed in the occupied territory have not been punished to this day. In order to distort the facts, the army called the District Development Commissioner to its headquarters and put pressure on him. In 2018, due to the non-cooperation of the Indian army, the matter was completely closed.
According to the report, a Court of Inquiry was set up to investigate the massacre, but its report has not been submitted till date. The sole purpose of the massacre of unarmed Kashmiris in the occupied territory is to change the population ratio of the occupied territory. The victims of the Kupwara massacre have been waiting for justice for the last 31 years and the wounds of this tragic incident are still fresh today. The Kupwara massacre and other such serious incidents are a slap in the face of the secularism slogans of the Indian government.
