The year 2024 proved to be the deadliest year for Pakistan’s civil and military security forces, with at least 685 security force personnel martyred in 444 terrorist attacks.
The overall casualties among security personnel and civilians in 444 terrorist attacks this year were also alarmingly high, with 1,612 civilians and personnel losing their lives in these attacks.
These deaths are more than 63 percent of the total deaths recorded this year and 73 percent more than the 934 terrorists.
The deaths recorded this year are a 9-year high and 66 percent more than in 2023. On average, about 7 people lost their lives every day, making November the deadliest month of the year.
The highest number of deaths in terrorism incidents occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which topped the list with a figure of 1,616, while Balochistan came in second with 782 deaths.
The following are the key findings of the Annual Security Report 2024 released by the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) think tank.
According to the report, 2,546 people died and 2,267 were injured in violent incidents in the country in 2024, including civilians, security personnel and terrorists.
This number of deaths came as a result of 1,166 terrorist attacks and counter-terrorism operations, proving that it was a serious year for the country’s security.
This year’s figures show a significant increase compared to last year, with almost 49 percent more incidents (1,066 compared to 784) occurring, with 66 percent of deaths (2,546 compared to 1,533) and more than 55 percent of injuries (2,267 compared to 1,462) occurring in these incidents.
