Hertfordshire: It has recently been revealed that the world’s coldest continent, Antarctica, is becoming greener.
According to a study conducted by the British Antarctic Survey and the Universities of Exeter and Hertfordshire, the Antarctic is rapidly turning green due to climate change.
Greening on the Antarctic Peninsula has increased from 1.1 square miles in 1986 to about 14.3 square miles in 2021.
The study shows that temperatures in Antarctica have increased significantly over the past 60 years. The highest rate of warming was found in the West Antarctic and Antarctic Peninsula regions, while the increase is much faster than the global average temperature.
The research, published in Nature Geoscience, states that the greening trend in Antarctica accelerated by more than 30 percent between 2016 and 2021 compared to the entire study period from 1986 to 2021.
