ISLAMABAD: The International Association of Airlines (IATA) has written a letter to the Federal Ministry of Finance demanding the government of Pakistan to withdraw the increase in ticket tax.
In a letter written to the government of Pakistan by the international organization of airlines, IATA expressed concern over the increase in tax on tickets and demanded immediate withdrawal of the tax increase on air travel.
The letter said that the recent budget in Pakistan has suddenly increased the tax on international air travel tickets up to 150 percent, which will reduce air travel and tourism for Pakistan.
The international organization said that according to the law, before increasing the tax on tickets, it is mandatory to take all the stakeholders into confidence a few months in advance.
It was further said that the increase in the tax rate will also affect the business of travel agents and airlines and thus the sudden increase in tax is a violation of international civil aviation laws.
