Lahore: PCB officials are furious over ignoring hosts Pakistan at the closing ceremony of the ICC Champions Trophy and will seek an explanation from the ICC on this matter.
At the end of the ICC Champions Trophy final played in Dubai, a trophy and other awards ceremony was held in which ICC Chairman Jay Shah, Indian Cricket Board President Roger Bini, BCBI Secretary and New Zealand Cricket Board’s Roger Toews were present.
Surprisingly, the host PCB representative was not invited by the ICC.
According to sources, PCB Chief Operating Officer and Tournament Director Sameer Ahmed Syed was present there but the ICC did not invite him to the ceremony.
PCB officials plan to write a formal letter to the ICC in this regard to seek an explanation from them as to why the host board was ignored.
The ICC was informed about the unavailability of PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi for the final and that Sameer Ahmed Syed would represent Pakistan in the final.
It is up to the ICC officials to decide who to invite on stage at the closing ceremony.
In the past, the host country has always been represented on stage at ICC events, but surprisingly, this tradition was not followed in Dubai, which is why PCB officials and cricket fans are very angry about this behavior of the ICC.
