Washington: Pakistan has assumed its 2-year global responsibilities as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
In this regard, a ceremony was held at the United Nations, in which Pakistan’s representative Asim Iftikhar participated in the flag-raising ceremony of the non-permanent members of the Security Council. During this, the flag of Pakistan was hoisted in the Security Council.
Along with Pakistan, Denmark, Greece, Panama and Somalia have also been elected as non-permanent members this time.
Pakistan has been elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the eighth time, and it achieved this status by securing 182 votes out of 193 member states.
On this occasion, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Munir Akram, said that Pakistan will play an active and constructive role in addressing global challenges as a non-permanent member of the Security Council.
It should be noted that the UN Security Council consists of five permanent members (the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, China, and France) and ten non-permanent members.
The non-permanent members serve a two-year term and their electoral responsibility is to assist in making decisions on important issues of international peace and security.
