OGDC Announces Major Oil and Gas Discovery at Baragzai X-01

Major Oil and Gas Discovery:

Islamabad :As a New Year gift for the nation, OGDC, the operator of the Nashpa Exploration Licence with a 65% working interest along with joint venture partners, has announced a major oil and gas discovery over the Datta Formation at its exploratory well Baragzai X-01 (Slant) located in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The joint venture partners include PPL with 30% working interest and GHPL with 5% carried interest.

The discovery is the result of OGDC’s focused exploration campaign in the Nashpa Block. The Baragzai X-01 (Slant) well was spudded on December 30, 2024, and drilled to a total depth of 5,170 metres into the Kingriali Formation. The well is currently producing 4,100 Barrels per Day (BPD) of oil and 10.5 Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMSCFD) of gas.

This discovery will make a positive contribution towards reducing the country’s energy demand and supply gap by adding indigenous oil and gas resources. It will also strengthen #OGDC’s hydrocarbon reserves base and support Pakistan’s energy security objectives.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif congratulated the nation on the discovery of large oil and gas reserves in the Nashpa block in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and praised the work of the relevant institutions.

An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on the affairs of the Petroleum Division, where the Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDCL) gave a briefing regarding the roadmap of the petroleum and gas sector.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif congratulated the nation on the discovery of large oil and gas reserves in the Nashpa block and praised the work of the relevant institutions.

Talking to the participants of the meeting, the Prime Minister said that discovery of new oil and gas reserves in the country should be among our priorities so that foreign exchange spent on importing petroleum products can be saved.

The Prime Minister directed to digitize the oil and gas supply chain from import to consumer consumption on a priority basis and said that digitization of the supply chain of oil and gas transportation will prevent smuggling of these products and will benefit the national exchequer.

The meeting was informed in the briefing that the Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDCL) has discovered large reserves of oil and gas in the Nashpa block in Kohat district.

The briefing was informed that 4100 barrels of oil can be extracted from these reserves per day. This year, gas is being provided to domestic consumers with better pressure during the winter season than last year.

The meeting was informed that work on RLNG connections is progressing rapidly and the target of 350,000 connections will be completed by June 2026. Pipelines for Shiva Gas Field and Batani Gas Field have been commissioned, while work is underway on the pipeline from Kot Palak Gas Field.
