A flood of people flooded the streets of Tehran for the funeral prayers of about 60 top military commanders, heads of the ballistic missile program, nuclear scientists, women and children who were martyred in Israeli attacks.
According to the Iranian state broadcaster “IRIB”, thousands of citizens reached Revolution Square to attend the funeral prayers and touched and kissed the coffins wrapped in the Iranian flag with great emotion.
Citizens were carrying Iranian flags and patriotic songs were resounding in the air. Extremely emotional scenes were seen.
Iranian President Masoud Pazishkian was also among the thousands of mourners. Photos of several high-ranking military officers were displayed on the stage, including prominent photos of martyred Major General Hossein Salami and General Mohammad Bagheri.
According to the semi-official Tasnim news agency, the protesters also held up pictures of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and chanted anti-American and anti-Israel slogans.
The ceremony began at 8 a.m. in Tehran’s famous Islamic Revolution Square, where thousands of mourners dressed in black waved Iranian flags and held pictures of martyrs.
Iranian state television broadcast video of the coffins of General Hossein Salami, General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, Major General Mohammad Bagheri and nuclear scientist Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, among others.
The coffins included four women and four children who were targeted in Israeli strikes.
The Iranian government closed government offices so that civil servants could attend the funeral. It was the first public burial of a top commander since the ceasefire.
