Three people were sentenced to death in Iran for spying for Israel and involvement in the assassination of a top nuclear scientist.
Nuclear scientist Fakhrzadeh was targeted on a highway near Tehran in November 2020.
Judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir said that the initial legal proceedings took place in Urmia and the nature of the charges against the people involved in the case is very serious.
He explained that as a result of the investigation, three of the eight people arrested in West Azerbaijan province were accused of spying for Israel.
The spokesman said the three men are also accused of transporting equipment to Iran under the guise of smuggling alcohol, which was allegedly used to kill Fakhrzadeh.
