E-Taxi Scheme :
Lahore, 26 February 2026: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated Punjab E-Taxi distribution ceremony, and inspected vehicles being provided under the Scheme. She inquired about various features of the electric vehicles, and distributed keys of e-taxis to five fortunate men and women, namely Naila Farhan, Kiren Khurshid, Qurrat-ul-Ain, Abid Ali, and Azmat Mehmood. She also called other recipients of e-taxis to the stage, and took photographs with them.Chief Minister Punjab talked to women recipients of e-taxis, and inquired from them about their issues.

A girl named Asma Mehmood presented her a picture and received an autograph, while the women who received e-taxis thanked her for launching the Scheme. Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan briefed attendees about features of the E-Taxi Scheme. He said that in the first phase, 1,100 electric vehicles will be provided under the E-Taxi Scheme.

He added that Punjab government will pay 50% down payment for male drivers and 60% for female drivers, besides the markup, and e-raxis will also be equipped with cameras, Wi-Fi, and charging ports. He highlighted that a 30% quota has been reserved for female drivers, and will have a separate color of their e-taxis. He underscored that in the E-Taxi Scheme, vehicle registration, fitness test, and token tax fees will also be paid by the Government of Punjab, whereas payment of dues for the E-Taxi Scheme will be made in easy five-year installments.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that in order to ensure safety of drivers and passengers, a panic button will be installed in every e-taxi, which will be linked to Punjab Safe Cities Authority. She was apprised by the relevant authorities that vehicles under E-Taxi Scheme will be registered with InDrive and Yango, while fast chargers will be installed at various locations for vehicle charging. They added that digital payment facility will also be provided in the E-Taxi Scheme.
