Hank Kong: A recent study found that children of patients with bipolar disorder have a higher risk of developing bipolar disorder and developing mental health problems and behavioral problems.
The study, conducted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong and ten Greater Bay Area hospitals, included 191 participants aged 6 to 21 years with bipolar disorder at GBA.
In addition, 202 children whose parents did not have bipolar disorder were also included in the study. Children of parents with bipolar disorder are twice as likely to develop conduct disorder in childhood, according to research.
Research has also found that children who enter their teenage years are 7.5 times more likely to experience symptoms and disorders of social anxiety.
In addition, delayed sleep symptoms were four times more likely than children of the same age whose parents did not have bipolar disorder.
