Bangladesh Elections :
Dhaka, February 13, 2026: The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has won a historic victory in the general elections, securing 209 of the 300 parliamentary seats and a commanding two-thirds majority.
This election marked the first parliamentary contest since the anti-government movement in 2024, which ended the long tenure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid, and was widely seen as crucial for restoring political stability in the country.
BNP chief and prime ministerial candidate Tariq Rahman won his seat and appealed to party workers to offer prayers for the nation’s progress rather than celebrate, emphasizing responsibility over triumph.
The BNP’s manifesto promises financial assistance for poor families, a 10-year limit on the prime minister’s term, measures to attract foreign investment, and steps to combat corruption.
On the other side, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman admitted defeat, with his alliance winning 68 seats. He expressed concerns over electoral transparency but vowed to play a constructive role as the opposition.
The election results are seen as a turning point in Bangladesh’s political landscape, with the BNP now positioned to lead the country into a new phase of governance and economic development.
