LAUSANNE: Ants are one of the few organisms that heal the wounds of their mates and now a recent report has revealed that they can even amputate the affected body part of a mates to save their life just like humans do. .
Some ants cut off infected limbs of mates to increase their chances of survival. Because of this behavior, they are the only recorded species to amputate to save the life of another.
Although we already knew that metabili ants can treat infections by secreting disinfectants produced by special glands. But not all ants have these glands.
Danny Buffett of the University of Lausanne in Switzerland was observing colonies of Florida carpenter ants in his laboratory when he noticed an ant chewing on the injured leg of a colleague.
