Washington: Former US President Donald Trump has claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is ready to sign a US mineral deal.
According to foreign media, the US and Ukraine are close to an agreement, under which Ukraine will give the US access to its underground minerals and other natural resources.
This development is being linked to the restoration of relations with the Trump administration to end Ukraine’s war with Russia and the hope of more US aid.
Trump says that the Ukrainian president wants to come to Washington and sign a deal, and this deal could go up to a trillion dollars.
According to Trump, the US has spent billions of dollars on the war in Ukraine, which should never have happened. The return of US taxpayers’ money will be ensured.
What will Ukraine get in return for this deal? In response, Trump cited $350 billion in U.S. aid and said that Ukraine has already been provided with heavy military equipment.
It is estimated that about 5 percent of the world’s raw materials are found in Ukraine.
Ukraine has proven reserves of 19 million tons of graphite, which is used to make electric vehicle batteries.
