Mumbai: Famous Bollywood filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has told about the different religions and beliefs of his parents.
According to Indian media, Mahesh Bhatt opened up about his personal life in an old interview, the filmmaker said that my father Nana Bhai was a Gujarati Hindu Brahmin while mother Shireen Muhammad Ali was a Muslim.
Mahesh Bhatt said that there was a deep bond of love between my parents, they maintained their respective religions and beliefs even after marriage, there was never any conflict between them over religion.
The filmmaker said, “When there were Hindu-Muslim riots in Mumbai in 1992, my mother always wore a sari and also had a big tattoo on her forehead because she didn’t want us to be discriminated against because of our minority status.” Difficulty arose, she used to be very worried for us during these riots.
He said that I have respected the religions of my mother and father from the beginning, so whenever I mentioned my Muslim identity in front of anyone, my mother got scared.
Mahesh Bhatt added that my mother was very upset when I named my daughters Shaheen and Aaliya as both are Muslim names.
It should be noted that Mahesh Bhatt married Lorraine Bright in the year 1970 with whom he has two children Rahul and Pooja Bhatt while in 1986 he married Sony Razdan.
Mahesh Bhatt has two daughters with Soni Razdan, Shaheen Bhatt and Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt.
