Boston: A group of American researchers has designed an AI model that can predict whether someone is at risk of dementia six years in advance.
The model, which relies on machine learning, yields 78.5 percent accurate results, Boston University researchers said.
“We wanted to predict whether a person would develop dementia in the next six years, and we found that we could predict this with relative confidence and high accuracy,” said researcher Yanis Hariri, a team member. .
He also said that it shows the potential of AI. The team published their findings in the Alzheimer’s Association journal Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
Along with achieving an early diagnosis of dementia, the team also said the AI model could help screen for automatic cognitive impairment in an affected person. It can also eliminate the need for imaging tests and laboratory tests that are time-consuming and expensive through the use of machine learning.
