Los Angeles: The first glimpse of the sequel of the Hollywood blockbuster ‘Gladiator’ has been revealed.
The first images from director Ridley Scott’s film have been released by Vanity Fair, offering a glimpse of the new cast and hinting at the direction of the story.
Stepping into the fray this time is Paul Mescale, known for his breakout role in the series Normal People. Meskel plays Lucius, the son of the original film’s main character, General Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russell Crowe).
The images show a battle-hardened Lucius, suggesting that he may follow in his father’s footsteps as a gladiator.
Meskel is joined by an impressive cast. The returning Connie Nelson reprises her role as Lucilla, the sister of the deceased emperor Commodus, who played a pivotal role in Maximus’ story.
Joining the cast is Denzel Washington as a power broker named Macrinus. Denzel is an arms dealer who provides food for the armies in Europe, supplies alcohol and oil, makes steel, makes spears, weapons, cannons.
The film stars Fred Hatchinger and Joseph Coen as Emperor Caracalla and Emperor Geta, respectively, the young rulers of Rome, who also happen to be twins.
The Colosseum again appears to be a central location in the first images, depicting moments of tension and brutal gladiator battles within the arena walls.
