NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover has captured dramatic footage of the planet’s moon Phobos, which is actually a solar eclipse on Mars.
Mars’ moon Phobos appears to face the Sun, causing a solar eclipse.
These observations can help scientists better understand the orbit of the Martian moon and how its gravity pulls on the surface of Mars, forming the crust and mantle on the planet.
On its 397th day on Mars, Perseverance recorded the solar eclipse with the Mastcam-Z camera, which lasted a little more than 40 seconds.
This eclipse was much smaller than the one seen from Earth because Phobos is about 157 times smaller than Earth’s moon. Moreover, it is smaller than the other Martian moon Deimos.
