DGFIA Ahmad Ishaq Jahangir says the legislation and reforms are aimed at combating money laundering and terrorist financing.
Addressing the 12th meeting of the Conference of Parties (COP) to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC), DGFIA said that to tackle the challenges posed by transnational organized crime, Pakistan is committed and needs a comprehensive approach to address the root causes of such crimes.
DGFIA said that economic disparity, territorial disputes and lack of opportunities create fertile ground for elements involved in criminal activities and therefore inclusive and sustainable development is essential.
He said that there is a need to strengthen the capacities of developing countries in dealing with organized crimes like money laundering, human trafficking and cybercrime.
DGFIA also emphasized on Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to combat various forms of organized crime, particularly human trafficking and smuggling of migrants, while on the key issue of corruption and illicit financial flows, DGFIA has Highlighted legislative reforms.
He said that the international community should speed up the return of stolen assets to developing countries so that these resources can be used for socio-economic development. A concerted global effort is essential to achieve UNTOC’s objectives.
DGFIA reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to work with the international community to combat the multifaceted challenges posed by organized crime.
Pakistan is represented in the Conference of Parties by DG FIA, DG Anti-Money Laundering Authority and Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN. UNTOC is the main international body in the fight against transnational organized crime with its Conference of the Parties (COP) held every two years.
