A dentist has warned that using toothpaste to whiten teeth can actually make them yellow.
In a viral video that has so far been viewed more than 2 million times, the oral health expert told his TikTok followers that whitening toothpastes don’t actually whiten your teeth.
Although these toothpastes can remove deep enamel and make teeth appear whiter, over time these harmful ingredients can lead to thinner, more yellow and sensitive teeth, he said.
This is because it wears off the protective layer of the tooth, exposing the inner part of the tooth. This part is the main part of the tooth which has yellow color.
The post, shared by the @rifkindental account, prompted many social media users to question what they should do instead of using whitening toothpaste.
