Elon Musk, one of the world’s richest men and the CEO of SpaceX, has recently reignited the debate on the importance of traditional education.
Elon Musk on X shared a video from an event supporting Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in Philadelphia where he declared that college is overrated.
He emphasized that many students take on debt during their college years without acquiring practical skills.
Musk, who holds degrees in physics and economics, said success does not depend on a four-year college degree. Instead, skilled trades should be important.
He said that professions like electrician, plumber and carpentry play a more important role in career development than specific educational degrees.
“I think college education is overrated,” he added. Too many people spend four years studying, taking out loan after loan, and often don’t have skills they can use later.
“I have a lot of respect for people who work with their hands,” Elon Musk said. We need electricians, plumbers, and carpenters, and it’s much more important in political science. I think we shouldn’t think that you need a four-year college degree to be successful.
