ISLAMABAD: Adiala Jail authorities have requested to adjourn the hearing of the 190 million pound reference till next week in view of security concerns.
In a letter written by the Superintendent of Adiala Jail to the Accountability Court Islamabad, it was said that Adiala Jail is the most sensitive jail in the province and there are more than 7,000 prisoners in it. Criminals involved in serious crimes including terrorism are imprisoned in Adiala Jail while high profile prisoners related to politics are also in Adiala Jail.
The letter further states that the Home Department of the Punjab government has received a report of a plan to attack jails by banned organizations. According to the report, there are security threats to Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rawalpindi and Attock jails. A mock exercise was also conducted with the cooperation of law enforcement agencies for the security of Adiala jail. Security clearance of the residents of the residential areas adjacent to the jail is also being done. In view of the security arrangements, the hearing on the 190 million pound reference should be postponed until next week
