Lahore: The Modi government, while presenting the new budget recently, has allocated Rs 6,810 billion ($78.7 billion) for defense.
This is a 9.5 percent increase over the previous year, but out of this amount, Rs 4,700 billion will be spent on salaries and pensions of the vast security setup, while Rs 310 billion will be spent on various expenses.
Only Rs 1,800 billion will be spent on modern weapons and equipment. Indian military experts have strongly criticized this spending trend and said that the Indian armed forces will never be able to compete with their contemporaries. India’s war budget is the fourth largest after the United States, China and Russia.
