KARACHI: The possibility of an unexpected record increase in the overall national production of cotton has arisen.
In the fortnight from October 15 to 31, cotton production has recorded a staggering increase of nearly 50 percent over the same period last year, the overall cotton production during the cotton year 2024-25 which was 50 to 55 lakh bales earlier. It was envisaged that now there is a possibility of increasing it to 60 lakh bales.
Chairman Cotton Ginners Forum Ehsanul Haque said that according to the latest report of the Cotton Ginners Association, the ginning factories across the country have delivered a total of 42 lakh 91 thousand cotton bales with a decrease of 37% till October 31.
According to the report, 18 lakh 42 thousand bales of ginning factories of Punjab and 24 lakh 49 thousand bales of ginning factories of Sindh have reached till the mentioned period, which is 39 and 26 percent less than the same period of last year respectively.
He said that from October 15 to 31, ginning factories across the country received a record of 11 lakh 90 thousand bales of phati, while last year they received 7 lakh 98 thousand bales of phati in the ginning factories during two weeks.
He said that due to the extraordinary increase in the arrival of cotton in these two weeks, the difference in the arrival of cotton compared to the previous year has also reduced considerably, which is that till October 15, the country’s production was 48% compared to the previous year, while the production of Punjab was 53%. Sindh’s production was 45% lower, which has now reduced to 37%, while Punjab’s production has dropped to 39% and Sindh’s 36% and is expected to further decline during the month of November.
He said that during the mentioned period, textile mills have purchased only 35 lakh bales from ginning factories compared to last year’s 58 lakh bales, while compared to last year’s 2 lakh 79 thousand bales of cotton, only 31 thousand bales of cotton have been exported this year. The country has been exported.
According to the report, 594 ginning factories were active in the same period last year, while 560 factories are active this year. He said that the sudden record rise in temperature in most of the cotton zones of Sindh and Punjab has threatened the cotton crop, so the farmers should water the crop and spray agricultural drugs according to the instructions of the experts.
