RIYADH: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Saudi Arabia on an official visit, where he was warmly welcomed.
According to Saudi Arabia’s official news agency, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Jeddah. He was received at the airport by the National Security Adviser and Saudi Ambassador to Ukraine.
Later, the Ukrainian president arrived at the royal palace and met Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The two leaders discussed the situation arising out of the Russian war.
In the meeting, Zelinsky and the Saudi crown prince’s meeting held 3 months ago to promote the peace plan and the implementation of issues agreed on the exchange of prisoners of war were also reviewed.
It should be noted that in February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine and occupied four of its regions, held a so-called referendum and annexed these regions to Russia.
Despite the support of Western countries, Russia has imposed war on Ukraine for 2 years and both sides are suffering loss of life and money.
Saudi Arabia still has relations with Russia and Ukraine. Therefore, he can better play the role of mediator in the ceasefire.
In an attempt to mediate the Russia-Ukraine war, Saudi Arabia also hosted ceasefire talks in August last year, in which representatives of more than 40 countries besides Russia participated.
It should be remembered that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy also attended the Arab League Summit in Jeddah in May 2023.
