LISBON: Prince Karim Aga Khan, the 49th spiritual leader of the Ismaili community, has passed away
The spiritual leader and 49th Imam of the Ismaili community, Prince Karim Aga Khan, has passed away in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon. He was 88 years old.
Prince Karim Aga Khan’s funeral prayers will be offered in Lisbon, and special prayers have been started in Jamaat-e-Khans around the world on the death of Prince Karim Aga Khan. Durood Tasbeeh will continue on the official website of the Ismaili community until the announcement of the new leader.
Prince Karim Aga Khan was appointed Imam on July 11, 1957. He was 20 years old at the time. Prince Karim’s grandfather, Sir Sultan Muhammad Shah Aga Khan, was an Ismaili. Prince Karim Aga Khan spent his life improving the lives of the underprivileged. He continued to emphasize that Islam is a religion of compassion, tolerance and human dignity.
According to a statement, the Ismaili community is deeply saddened by the death of Shah Karim Al-Husseini, also known as Prince Karim Aga Khan. He played a prominent role in the guidance and welfare projects of the Ismaili community.
After his death, the nomination process for the 50th Imam of the Ismaili community has been completed.
Prince Karim Aga Khan patronized various educational, cultural and economic development projects in his life, which worked to improve the lives of millions of people. His guidance and welfare works were appreciated globally.
In Pakistan, Prince Karim Aga Khan was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Sitara-e-Pakistan.
