New research suggests that if a woman has high sugar levels in her teenage or college years, ‘pre-diabetes’ can lead to serious pregnancy complications later in life.
Pre-diabetes is a condition in which sugar levels are higher than normal but do not reach type 2 diabetes.
“Ignoring prediabetes in teenage girls can make it difficult to prevent pregnancy-related complications later,” said study lead author Catherine McCarthy.
Catherine and her team published their findings in the journal JAMA Network Open.
