Islamabad: PPP has demanded chairmanship of Public Accounts Committee.
PPP Senator Saleem Mandviwala has sent a letter to National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq demanding a meeting on the requisition of PAC members.
According to parliamentary sources, eleven PAC members have submitted requisitions. In case the Speaker does not call a meeting, the PPP has indicated that it will call a meeting itself.
Senator Saleem Mandviwala also sought help from Speaker Ayaz Sadiq in the letter, saying that until a permanent chairman is appointed, the committee members should elect their own chairman through elections.
According to sources, the National Assembly Speaker has again asked the PTI for a panel of names to head the PAC. Former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser also met Speaker Ayaz Sadiq on this issue. PTI is adamant on making Sheikh Waqas Akram the chairman.
Meanwhile, the PML-N has also indicated its support for the PPP to head the PAC. Since the government came into being in March, the PAC, the most important committee in parliament, has not yet been able to elect its chairman.
