GENEVA: In the United Nations Human Development Index 2024 list, Pakistan is ranked 161 with 0.544 points which is better than 2023. This list includes 191 countries.
According to the World News Agency, Pakistan was ranked 164th in this list last year with 0.540 points, but this year, Pakistan was able to regain its 161st rank from 2013 to 2021.
Note that health, education and income indices are used to prepare this list. Among the South Asian countries, Sri Lanka is at the top with the world number 73 in the list.
Among the South Asian countries, Sri Lanka is followed by Bangladesh (129) and India (132). Afghanistan is ranked 180th in the list while Nepal stands at 143rd. South Sudan ranks last at 191.
Thus, Switzerland is on the first place in the list while Norway is on the second place. Then comes the turn of Iceland and Hong Kong.
The UN Human Development Index says the world is on the way to a slow post-pandemic recovery, but the gap between rich and poor states is widening.
