Pakistan has expressed concern over the sale and theft of nuclear and radioactive material in India.
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Munir Akram, has said that the discovery of a highly toxic and radioactive substance, californium, in the illegal possession of a group is a matter of concern and Pakistan has also drawn attention to it in the Security Council.
He said that earlier (in 2021) 3 cases of theft of californium have also been reported in the same country. Pakistan demands a full investigation from the Security Council regarding the repeated occurrence of such incidents.
Munir Akram said that Pakistan has successfully completed its duties as per the UN resolution and has established a strong command and control system which is of international standard.
It should be remembered that in August this year, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had expressed its concern regarding the theft of nuclear and radioactive material in India and its illegal sale.
