Paris: Two rare pistols of French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte have been sold at auction for 1.69 million Euros.
According to experts, the price of these rare weapons manufactured by the Paris-based arms manufacturer Louis Marin Gosset was expected to be between 1.2 million and 1.5 million euros, but these pistols were auctioned for 509.5 million Pakistani rupees.
The pistols were auctioned by the Ousset auction house near Fontainebleau Palace, where Napoleon attempted suicide after his abdication in 1814.
The pistols come after the French Ministry of Culture recently classified them as national treasures and banned their export.
Napoleonic pistols are decorated with gold and silver, and there is an engraved portrait of Napoleon in profile.
It is said that he wanted to use them to kill himself after his army was defeated by foreign forces on the night of 12 April 1814.
Also included in the sale was the pistol’s original box and various accessories, including a powder horn and various powder tamping rods.
Auctioneer Jean-Pierre Ausnat said a portrait of Napoleon was being sold alongside the items.
