During the protest of young doctors and nurses against the arrest of doctors in Sahiwal Teaching Hospital in Lahore, President Young Doctors Association Dr. Shoaib Niazi demanded an apology from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
The staff in the OPDs of all the government hospitals in Lahore went on strike, the outer doors of Lahore General Hospital, Mayo Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, Services Hospital and Gangaram Hospital are closed, besides PIC, Lady Willingdon, Lady Aitchison Hospital. I am also off work.
On this occasion, Young Doctors Association President Dr. Shoaib Niazi said that the OPDs will remain closed until Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz apologizes. Maryam Nawaz has handcuffed the senior teachers including the principal. It is disrespectful.
Young doctors demanded that those involved in the arrest of doctors should be brought to justice, the security bill in hospitals should be passed immediately, a full inquiry into the case of arrest of doctors, victims of political revenge should be brought to justice. The doctors and nurses should be reinstated immediately, Punjab Chief Minister and Health Secretary should immediately apologize for the matter.
Along with this, the Young Doctors Association announced to continue the strike until the demands are approved.
On the other hand, over the death of 3 children and the arrest of a staff nurse in Khanewal, young nurses started a protest in front of the 8 club. They said that instead of taking action against the pharmaceutical companies, the nurse was arrested. We will continue to protest against the government’s attitude towards enquiry.
Apart from this, nurses also protested at Nishtar Hospital and Children’s Complex. The protesters said that they will protest on a daily basis until the release of nurse Aqsa.
It should be noted that on June 14, antibiotic injections were given to three young children under treatment at the Khanewal District Headquarters Hospital, but the children died as soon as the injections were given.
Later, the heirs staged a protest at DHQ Hospital and demanded to take notice from the Secretary Health, later the district administration registered a case against the concerned head nurse Aqsa through preliminary inquiry and arrested her from the nursing hostel.
Nurses had started a protest against the arrest of Nurse Aqsa.
