LAHORE: Pakistan Railways lost billions of rupees of income due to non-consultation regarding any of the most important projects in the government institutions.
The ports are being equipped with the latest technology with an investment of billions of rupees, but not a single penny has been spent on the railway track and no such plan is in sight in the future.
Due to severe lack of departmental coordination and no formal policy in the country, the railway track was not given access to the container terminal, which was being developed at the cost of billions of rupees with the investment of Abu Dhabi in Karachi Gateway Terminal Limited at Karachi Ports.
The construction of the new terminal will handle thousands of containers, but without a railway track, a senior railway official revealed while talking to Express News that the Karachi Gateway Terminal has recently been established with the investment of Abu Dhabi. The departments have not taken the Railways “on board” for track access in the terminal building project and even after a year, there has been no consultation with the Pakistan Railways.
Last year, an investment agreement of 1.8 billion dollars was signed, on which work is going on with great speed, but not even a penny has been kept for the railway track.
He said that along with building a new terminal, if you grade the railway track also, the railways would also benefit, the delivery of thousands of containers is not possible only through road transport.
