AMSTERDAM: In Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, the government banned protests for three days after a dangerous clash between Israeli football fans and an anti-Israel group.
According to the report of the foreign news agency Reuters, the mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Heilsma, described the incident as an attack by an anti-Jewish group, and the government of Israel has sent a plane to transport its fans back to their country.
The mayor of Amsterdam said that Maccabi Tel Aviv fans were attacked and shot at with fireworks on the outskirts of the city, but were escorted back to the hotel by police.
He said that 5 people have been injured in this incident and they are being given medical aid in the hospital.
Police said they arrested 62 suspects during a post-match protest by Palestinian supporters who were heading towards areas of the city where protests are banned.
Amsterdam police said fans left the stadium peacefully after Dutch club Ajax’s worst 5-0 defeat to the Tel Aviv club in a Europa League match but clashes broke out in the city center late at night.
In the videos shared on social media, it can be seen that the police are trying to save the crowd, but slogans are being raised from both sides.
The report stated that before the match, where anti-Israel slogans were being raised, on the other hand, Maccabi Tel Aviv fans were also chanting anti-Arab slogans.
A fan of the Israeli club said that we were seeing a large number of people shouting and running and the situation was very scary.
According to the report, the Israeli government has sent ships to take back its fans, while Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has met with the powerful anti-Muslim minister of the Netherlands, Geert Wilders.
Amsterdam’s government has banned protests in the city for three days and handed police emergency powers, giving them the power to stop and search citizens in the event of demonstrations.
It should be noted that the anti-Israel trend in the Netherlands has increased since last year’s attack on Gaza and protests against Israel’s barbaric actions are taking place, and the above-mentioned incident shows the anger against the Israeli attacks on Gaza.
More than 43,000 Palestinians have been martyred in Israel’s one-year-long barbaric operations on Gaza, and millions of citizens are homeless and face shortages of basic necessities.
