Instant messaging application WhatsApp has accused Israeli spyware company Paragon Solutions of targeting around 90 journalists and civil society members using WhatsApp.
On Friday, a WhatsApp official said that the Meta subsidiary had sent Paragon Solutions a cease and desist letter (a legal order that asks it to refrain from an act) following the hacking.
In a statement, WhatsApp said that the company would continue to strive to protect people’s ability to communicate privately.
On the other hand, Paragon has declined to comment on the matter.
A WhatsApp official told Reuters that the platform had identified an attempt to hack around 90 users.
However, he declined to say which people were specifically targeted or which region they belonged to. But the company pointed out that the targeted individuals were from the media and civil society.
